The Curriculum Enrichment Activities (AEC) in the municipality of Tavira will only start from October, «since the Government only authorized the City Council to open the competitions on September 12th», revealed the municipality.

The Tavirense Chamber stresses that, "despite the transfer of competences in the field of education, between the Government and local authorities, the impositions established in the Law of Commitments caused serious financial constraints and procedural impediments that have been paralyzing the municipal activity".

Even so, the municipality maintains a large part of the support, in a global investment of just over 1,1 million euros.

Usually carried out using municipal vehicles, study visits “will have to be suspended in this 1st period, as Municipalities are not authorized to pay overtime to employees, namely, drivers and educational assistants”.

At this time, the Municipality of Tavira states that it is “deeply committed to the completion of the contract for the construction of the Horta do Carmo School Centre, next to the D. Manuel Basic School for the 2nd and 3rd Cycles in the former fair field, which it involves a global investment of more than 3,5 million euros, and its completion is expected during this school year».

"Contrary to the will of the local authority, a set of urgent and necessary works and repairs in schools, whose projects are ready to be put up for competition, will not proceed at this time, since the budgetary restrictions imposed by the Government on Municipalities do not allow any constructions".

According to Jorge Botelho, Mayor, “there is still a lot to do in our schools and to improve support for students, teachers and non-teaching staff, however, and, in the face of a dire crisis, the Municipal Council of Tavira assumes the their responsibilities in a controlled and unprecedented effort, waiting for everyone to understand and collaborate».

«We will always be open and available to collaborate with everyone, to encourage and provide better conditions for our students in the primary objective, which is full academic success and guarantee equal conditions in access to education», stresses Jorge Botelho.

In terms of support, and "despite the limitations imposed by the Government and the current economic situation", the Câmara de Tavira guarantees the supply of school meals to around 1.700 students, the attribution of support for the acquisition of school textbooks to students at the highest levels. A and B, involving half a thousand families, school transport for 482 students who live more than three kilometers from schools, transport for students with disabilities, family support service for pre-school students, school kits containing the teaching material requested by teachers, for all 1st Cycle students attending public schools in the Municipality area, school supplies for all 1st Cycle and pre-school classrooms, implementation of the school textbook loan bank and purchase and distribution of fruit in all 1st Cycle teaching establishments.
