In September, the Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel pays tribute to one of the most famous protagonists of the Algarve's tables: Figo.

The São Brás Market started the month of September with a Mercadinho do Figo, in a diversified exhibition of fig-based products, on the 8th, followed by a demonstration of sugar paste modeling on the 15th, with the participation of Best Cake, by Tavira.

Next Saturday, the 22nd, the Municipal Market opens its doors to the celebrations of the European Car Free Day, with a program of activities for the whole family.

For the last Saturday of the month, the 29th, the Municipal Market will once again be the stage for another Gastronomic Demonstration, this time by the hand of chef João Silva, who promises to surprise with new suggestions sprinkled with the flavors of the fig…

Traditionally consumed in the summer months, figs are highly nutritious, rich in dietary fiber, potassium, proteins, minerals and vitamins.

The fig is one of the fruits whose curative effects are among the oldest, being easily digestible, tonic, laxative, diuretic, pectoral and topical emollient. Its consumption helps to overcome exhaustion, stimulates the ability to concentrate, improves mood and eliminates nervousness. Externally it is recommended for inflammation of the mouth, sores and burns.
