Secondary Future Júlio Dantas: if the works ever end, the school will be like this

The Government claims that its "expectation" is that the requalification works at the Júlio Dantas Secondary School, in Lagos, under the responsibility of the company Parque Escolar, "may be resumed in the short term and that they will be completed by the end of the current year."

This is the main point of the answer to the question of the Parliamentary Group of the Portuguese Communist Party, which questioned the Government on July 27th about the delay in the requalification works.

These delays forced that, in the 2011/12 school year, Physical Education activities, instead of taking place on the premises of the School, were carried out in the Municipal Sports Complex, with increased charges for the School, and even the cafeteria and the bar operated in monoblocks in unsuitable conditions (very high temperatures in May and July and danger of contamination of some food products).

Based on that "expectation", the Government believes that it is "inadvisable to implement any alternative to relocate the cafeteria", as well as it considers it to be "preferable ... to maintain the provision of the same [Physical Education classes] in the sports pavilion provided by the Municipality of Lagos" .

“In other words, in the face of concrete problems at the Júlio Dantas Secondary School, which imply very negative consequences for the functioning of this school, the Government responds with “expectations” instead of concrete actions to solve the problems”, stresses the PCP.

The communists affirm that they will continue “to monitor this problem, as well as similar problems that occur in other secondary schools in the Algarve region that are being upgraded under the Parque Escolar company, and will not fail to demand concrete and swift measures from the Government to resolve these problems".
