A birdwatching activity, the inauguration of an orientation system in the historic center of the city, a guided visit to the cemetery and even a leaf-removal at the Water Museum in Querença are the ways in which Loulé celebrates the World Tourism Day, which is commemorated. on the 27th of September.

Thus, considering that Birdwatching is a segment of tourism business in rapid development, the Câmara de Loulé promotes, on the 27th, a birdwatching activity in the Local Protected Landscape of Rocha da Pena, in conjunction with the Almargem Association , and which will be guided by João Ministro.

This initiative takes place between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, and with the aim of making tourism agents aware of this aspect with great potential, it will count on the participation of a group of tourism students from the Professional School of Alte.

At 16:30 pm, the inauguration of an orienteering system in the historic center of Loulé is scheduled. It is intended to offer visitors two routes so that they can get to know the historic center and the urban center of Loulé. Thus, two routes were defined – heritage (orange) and commerce (green), marked in the public space, namely on the sidewalk, with footprints, which will indicate the way forward.

This is a project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund – FEDER, under the National Strategic Reference Framework – QREN, under the Algarve 21 Operational Program. It represents an eligible investment of 83.627,70 euros and an FEDER contribution of 54.358,01 euros.

On the 28th, the attention is focused on the Water Museum Pole, in Querença, where, at 21 pm, the activity “removal of corn” takes place, commonly known as defoliation. The intention is to recover an old tradition of these mountainous areas.

A group of women from this village will perform this task in which, manually, with a skewer to tear, the “frill” is removed from the corn cob.

Finally, on September 29, at 10:00 am, the Culture and Museums Division reissues the guided tours to Loulé Cemetery.

With the theme “Place of Worship and Culture”, Luísa Martins and Luís Guerreiro, both researchers of Local History, once again unravel some of the heritage mysteries that were dormant in the Loulé Cemetery.

In an action also integrated in the European Heritage Days, the idea is to increase another tourist segment that is gaining ground in several countries: cemetery tourism.

Those interested in participating in this action should register by calling 289 400 611 or [email protected]

The World Tourism Day, which marks the 27th of September, is this year under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Energy – Boosting Sustainable Development”.
