Teatro das Figuras will host the second edition of Semana da Dança, between the 5th and 15th of September, an initiative that marks the return of regular programming to this cultural space in Faro.

The event will give space to reference creators, but also opens the door to people from the Algarve who are passionate or just curious about the practice of this art.

The Dance Week is launched on the 5th, a Wednesday, at 21 pm, with «Areia», the collective creation of the Circolando company, which has the particularity of integrating extras recruited in the region, more precisely two men and two women.

“We want people of different age groups, from young people to the elderly, with no experience in acting and who are available to present themselves in a bathing suit. The extras must be at Teatro das Figuras on the 4th at 21:00 pm and on the 5th from 20:30 pm. We offer each extra an invitation to the show», according to a note by Anabela Afonso, administrator of the Municipal Theater of Faro, on the social network Facebook.

The production «Areia» reflects on «time, silence, drought, fragility, death, origin and the desert». «A show that was born from the “desire for a solo project that would develop a cross approach to dance and the visual arts”», according to TMF.

On the weekend of September 8th and 9th, the renowned Portuguese choreographer Clara Andermatt will return to the Algarve capital to conduct a dance workshop for people over 16 years old who have already had some contact with dance. «The Interpreter and the Creation».

«The work will aim to develop the body's capabilities using different approaches and techniques. The role of the interpreter and the creator in a detailed analysis of different types of doubts, problems, impasses, achievements and errors that involve the creative act, from the point of view of the creator and the interpreter», is read in the note sent to the editorial offices.

On the 12th, the creation «Outside any Gift», by Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz, winners of the prestigious Prix Jardin d'Europe 2011 will take to the stage. «We must leave. Going outside and finding outwardness – matter. For an outside that is neither geographical nor reconciled with the narrative of the journey or with the exodus from the apparent bankruptcy of the present», summarize the creators of this show.

The second edition of the TMF Dance Week ends on the 15th with another national creation, the show «Wasteland», created and performed by António Cabrita and São Castro and produced by Silke Z./resistdance (Germany) in collaboration with the association Vo 'Art (Portugal).

“The creators start with the question: what happens when we have nothing to say, nothing to observe. How does our body react, facing a hostile space and a physical emptiness of the individual who is fascinated by any extension of himself in any material other than himself», revealed the event's organizers.

All programming, as well as information regarding prices, reservations and online sales is available at the Teatro das Figuras website.
