PS Algarve today welcomed the Government's decision to maintain the Basic Emergency Services (SUB) of Lagos and Loulé, whose closure was recommended in the scope of the reassessment of the National Emergency and Emergency Network.

In a statement, the Algarvian socialists salute the Government "for not having confirmed the recommendations presented in the study that it requested". It is decision was announced by Health Minister Paulo Macedo during a visit to the Hospital of Faro last week.

PS Algarve also congratulates «the Algarveans, and their political representatives, who from the outset promptly protested against a measure that would manifestly assume extremely negative impacts for the Region and for the image of the Algarve as a healthy and safe tourist destination ».

“The outright repudiation and pressing protest staged by the Algarve municipalities most directly affected in the eventual implementation of the proposed closures, in defense of regional interests, undoubtedly constituted preponderant elements in the ministerial decision now announced,” underline the socialists.

«Not dodging the absence of other public measures that are very necessary for the expansion of accessibility and equity in the use of health services, whether in primary care or in hospital care, the PS Algarve sees this decision as an important contribution to the centralization of the health policy. around the interests and needs of the population», concludes the communiqué.
