The Bartolomeu dos Santos Workshop will be inaugurated on Friday, at 22 pm, at Escadinhas Prof. Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos (former Escadinhas do Alto de Santa Ana) in an initiative of its Installation Commission.

The Recording Workshop was founded in 1995 by Bartolomeu dos Santos, after his retirement from the Slade School of Fine Art in London, where he taught for 30 years.

This Workshop, in addition to its own activity, with courses, editions and residencies, was a privileged meeting point for artists from all over the world, until its closing in 2008, with the death of the plastic artist.

For four years, the Workshop remained closed with all its equipment and collection, however acquired by Casa das Artes de Tavira from the Mestre's heirs.

«With the support of a strong core of disciples, friends and admirers, it is now possible to recover the facilities and relaunch its activity, with the creation of a non-profit association, OBS, giving back to Tavira this prestigious workshop that we believe is the point starting point for new commitments', stress its promoters.

The opening ceremony will feature the reading of excerpts from the diaries of Bartolomeu dos Santos himself by the actor Pedro Ramos, director of Al-Masrah Teatro, illustrated by images from the artist's life, in a collection by Manuel Augusto Araújo.
