Anyone who wants to help reforest the Serra do Caldeirão, after the fires that ravaged this area of the interior of the Algarve in July, just wear comfortable clothes and shoes, fill up on a festive and adventurous spirit and enjoy the mountain delicacies and beauty at the Festa da Youth and Emigrant of Cachopo, which will take place on Sunday, August 26th.
A group of young people from the village of Cachopo, who even had flames at their door, is organizing the party, whose proceeds will revert to the renovation of the Serra. The suggestions of these young people, who “do not want to lower their arms, refuse to let themselves be overcome by fire and organize this party to celebrate Cachopo, its lands and its people”, are many.
The party starts at 16 pm, but, suggest the organizers, it is a good program to come early and have a typical mountain lunch at one of the four restaurants in the parish. The heat won't be a problem, as anyone who wants to cool off can always take a dip in the pool at the Fonte Férrea Leisure Park.
This is also a good opportunity to get to know this truly typical location in the municipality of Tavira, where, for example, Albardeiro and Ferreiro continue to work in a traditional way. To do this, just line up on Peddy Paper, which starts at 16 pm, which will pass not only in the workshops of these artisans, which are quite rare, but also in other places of interest in the parish, such as the Mill, the Linen Museum, in looms and the Church Headquarters.
Also in the afternoon, there is the opportunity to get to know the many varieties of tomato that are produced in the Algarve mountains and even to make our own bread with chorizo, following traditional techniques. From 18 pm, at Fonte Férrea, the narrator Luís Carmelo will tell stories and tales, in a very sweet environment, since in the same place there will be a display of liqueurs and sweets from the region.
From 21 pm onwards, there is a ball, unavoidable in a summer party, with music by Sandrine and Isabel Frade. As the party will last into the night, the organization invites you to "camp at the Fonte Férrea Leisure Park or reserve a bed (in a dormitory) in the Center".
