More than half a thousand spectators passed, between the 23rd and 25th of August, at the FARCUME Festival of Short Films of Faro, which took place this year at the Hotel and Tourism School in the Algarve capital.
This festival, under the responsibility of Faro 1540 – Association for the Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro, received a total of 84 short films, which translates into an increase of almost 200% compared to the previous edition. A number that, according to the organization, is a «clear indicator of the interest and curiosity that this festival has been arousing in this area, where it has even arrived in Brazil, which this year had a very significant representation of works».
This fact forced the organization to make «a careful selection of works», having selected 58 short films for exhibition, even though there was a need to carry out parallel sessions.
There were about 15 hours of cinema, divided into four categories (Animation, Documentary, Fiction and Videoclips), where the quality of the works presented, as happened in the 1st edition, once again surprised both the audience, the jury and the organization itself. .
Many of these short films had participated in several national and international reference festivals, having obtained excellent ratings.
In parallel to the movie show, there was a photography exhibition under the theme «Faro: Identity & Heritage».
In addition, this year the festival had a strong concern and environmental sensitivity, having been drawn up an Environmental Management plan, in order to ensure an optimization of the resources necessary for the promotion and realization of the event, the recovery of the waste generated, being also a Zero Carbon initiative, in other words, FARCUME was completely free of carbon emissions, one of the elements most responsible for the greenhouse effect that contributes to the problematic phenomena of climate change.
This event aims to give spectators the opportunity to learn about the good works that are carried out in this area and to reward the effort, dedication and commitment of these young filmmakers and screenwriters by disseminating, valuing and promoting their work.
Bruno Lage, president of the association Faro 1540, announces that «the organization will now take stock and within a few months it will start preparing the 3rd edition of FARCUME, which is intended to assert itself in the short term as a reference short film festival in southern Brazil. country, making known and launching new talents, in addition to disclosing and promoting to the public the excellent works that are carried out in this area, but which, as they are outside the commercial circuit, do not always have the desired and deserved dissemination».
