The Algarve enters the high summer season with 69 beaches and 4 marinas with «Blue Flag», 77 beaches with «Gold Quality», 40 with «Acessible Beach» flag and 32 «Beach Health» stations. All in all, there are 222 extra reasons to spend the soft and hot days of your vacation on the region's sandy beaches.  

vacation destination Sun and beach, the Algarve is the Portuguese region with the largest number of beaches and marinas with the «Blue Flag», a reference symbol of the environmental quality that foreign and Portuguese tourists recognize and value. In 2012, the award was awarded by the Blue Flag of Europe to 69 beaches and 4 marinas in the Algarve.

The beaches of the Algarve were also distinguished with "Gold Quality" by Quercus – National Association for the Conservation of Nature: a total of 77 bathing areas this year present the best results in terms of water quality in the destination. Albufeira is the municipality with the highest number of beaches with «Gold Quality» in the country, with 18 awarded bathing areas.

The white flag, symbol of the «Accessible Beach – Beach for Everyone» project, will be hoisted on 40 beaches throughout the region. In them, people with reduced mobility have access ramps to the bathing area, reserved parking spaces, walkways on the sand and accessible help stations, among other equipment that allow their use by everyone.

This bathing season also has 32 «Beach Health» posts distributed along the Algarve coast, with the aim of ensuring tourists nursing health care and responding to clinical situations that can be treated on site.
