Ricardo Mestre today dropped one position, to 3rd place, in the general classification of the Joaquim Agostinho Trophy, whose first stage in line was today on the road joining Manique do Intendente and Vimeiro, over 184,3 kilometers.

The stage was won in the sprint by Sérgio Ribeiro (Efapel-Gaia).

Spaniard Iker Camano (Endura), winner of yesterday's prologue, kept the lead of the race, arriving integrated in the peloton, in 8th place, three seconds after Ribeiro, who finished in 4:37.20 hours, at an average of 39,873 km/ H.

The route was not expected to be easy, considering the hard climb towards Vimeiro in the final kilometers.

Although the goals of the Carmim/Prio/Tavira team were to put the athletes Ricardo Mestre and Alejandro Marque in the dispute for the best places in the stage, this task was troubled, as Nelson Vitorino said.

“It was our intention to launch Ricardo Mestre or Alejandro Marque in the best way possible, but unfortunately Marque had a hole, as I did, and our task was complicated to support the team”, lamented the Algarve cyclist.

Despite the setback, Ricardo Mestre remains well positioned in the overall table, in 3rd place, 12 seconds behind the still leader Iker Camaño (Endura Racing).

Tomorrow, the cyclists will cover the 10 laps of the traditional Torres Vedras circuit, in a total of 100 kilometres.
