One of the four fronts of the fire in the Serra de Tavira is a few hundred meters from the village of Cachopo, already threatening cork warehouses and a fuel station, the report found. Sul Informação on site.

Taking into account the great extent of the fire, divided into several fronts, a reinforcement of human resources was requested. Thus, in addition to the seven aerial means – four planes and three helicopters -, the Reinforcement Groups for Fighting Forest Fires (GRIF) in Beja, Évora and Setúbal were activated.

Five platoons of military personnel were also mobilized to assist with field operations.

In total, 450 men will be on the ground, from fire brigades in the Algarve and throughout the Alentejo.

As a precaution, the EN124 road between Feiteira and Cachopo was cut again.

Social action teams are visiting the affected villages and hills in the mountain parish of Cachopo. During the night, several hills, mainly inhabited by the elderly, were evacuated to the old people's home in Cachopo, as a precautionary measure. People are already returning to their homes, but the Câmara de Tavira has placed social action technicians in the field.
