The situation experienced since yesterday at the end of the afternoon in São Brás de Alportel is "very serious", due to the fires that spread rapidly and have already passed "over several villages".

The mayor of São Brás António Eusébio revealed that the fire "has many outbreaks and a great extent" and that, during the night, the means of assistance "were dispersed" and were not in sufficient numbers, so the firefighters "were not able to do".

In statements to the Sul Informação António Eusébio said that last night they were fighting the fires «only the Firefighters from São Brás de Alportel and some means coming from Loulé».

Perhaps for this reason, the fire “got out of control during the night”, descending to the south, after “passing over Cabeço do Velho, Parizes, Javali and Arimbo”, places that had to be evacuated. The mayor admits that there are houses burned in the Serra.

At the moment, fire-fighting operations in São Brás are being conducted from the Command Post installed in Cachopo since Wednesday, but throughout the morning «a communications post should be installed here in São Brás», to give a helps organize field forces.

There are also air resources allocated to this fire front, which António Eusébio revealed to have resulted from the fire that broke out on Wednesday near the town of Catraia, in the municipality of Tavira.

«Not long ago, we evacuated the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Center of São Brás de Alportel, whose users were relocated in the Municipal Pavilion», he also revealed. "As the fire approached, there was a lot of smoke and we thought it was better to evacuate people," he explained.
