The fire that consumed bush and forest in Bensafrim, Lagos, has already been declared extinguished by the Civil Protection. The fire raged from around one in the afternoon on Monday and had three fronts, meanwhile quelled by firefighters and heavy air means.
Despite the fact that, according to the mayor of Lagos Júlio Barroso, the fire was “a hundred meters from Bensafrim”, when it broke out, over time it moved away from inhabited areas. It was declared extinct this afternoon.
The fire in this rural parish in the municipality of Lagos motivated the mobilization of six aerial means – four heavy bomber planes, a heavy helicopter and an initial attack –, as well as 111 operational, namely firefighters from various corporations in the Algarve and Alentejo and 34 vehicles .
