The European qualification for the World of Sevens, in rugby – Algarve Sevens will take place at the Estádio Algarve, on the 20th and 21st of July.
At stake, fighting for the five places for the 2013 World Cup, will be 12 teams: Portugal (European Champion 2011/12), Spain, France, Georgia, Scotland, Italy, Ukraine, Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Belgium and Lithuania.
The format of the competition will be identical to the main international sevens competitions. On the first day (20 July) of the competition and during the group stage, the teams all play against each other. On Saturday (21 July) the play-offs and finals of the championship will be played.
In case of qualification, this will be the fifth presence of Portugal in the World Cups, after the 24th place in 1997 (Hong Kong), the 18th in 2001 (Argentina), the 10th in 2005 (Hong Kong) and the 12th in 2009 (Dubai).
The Portuguese Rugby Federation, as the host of this qualifying event, intends to internally promote this aspect of rugby that will be part of the 2016 Olympic Games, which will decisively contribute to launch the sport.
On the other hand, Algarve Sevens will be an excellent tourist poster for the promotion of the region. Also because the Algarve has excellent conditions for the tournament, from sports infrastructure, quality of hotels and weather conditions.
Tickets cost 5 euros (daily) and 7,5 euros (two days).
Until the 20th of July, tickets for the Algarve Sevens are on sale at the following locations: Lisbon – Portuguese Rugby Federation, between 15 pm and 00 pm (There is no ATM!); Loulé – Quinta do Lago, Quinta Shopping, Bar Cubo, from 19:00 am to 10:00 am; Faro – Forum Algarve, from 10:00 am to 00:00 am; Albufeira – Algarve Shopping (Guia), from 10:00 to 00:00.
On the 19th (from 14:00 pm to 19:00 pm), on the 20th (from 15:00 pm to 21:00 pm) and on the 21st (from 15:00 pm to 21:00 pm) of July, tickets can also be purchased at the ticket office at Estádio Algarve
