PS/Quarteira says that the social function of the new Fishing Port in that location was called into question with the notice of the Port and Maritime Transport Institute (IPTM) that «orders the removal of all recreational boats that are parked inland of the fishing port, making no distinction between “recreational boats” and “sport fishing” boats'.

According to the Quarteira socialists, even after the construction of the new Fishing Port, sport fishermen were still allowed to use the embarkation pier, since their boats are «the vehicle for the local community of retired and unemployed fishermen to be able to carry out fishing activities for self-sufficiency, which in practice represents a complement to their income».

"If there is no change in the orientation of the aforementioned notice, about fifty retired and unemployed fishermen, and an equal number of families, will see their living conditions even more aggravated and penalized, a non-dismissive aspect, especially in a period when the country is in a regime of economic and financial austerity», warned the PS/Quarteira.

The matter will even reach Parliament, through socialist deputies elected by the Algarve Miguel Freitas and João Soares, who “will question the Minister of Agriculture, Sea, Environment and Spatial Planning, if the Government is considering finding a alternative port infrastructure for those retired and unemployed fishermen».

The PS recalled the issue of the removal of pier No. 6 "which has not yet been replaced". "In this sense, it is important to remind the Government that on 28/05/2012, it said that "new equipment should be installed, with the removal of the existing structure" in response to a question from the PS Parliamentary Group," they recall.
