Socialist deputy Miguel Freitas said that the Government "recognized a mistake" in extending the Impulso Jovem program to the Algarve, but asked that it be "absolutely clarified whether this expansion covers the entire program, including the Employment Passport and what the budget for the region" .

«Minister Miguel Relvas came to say that the Impulso Jovem program is being extended to the Algarve, confirming our criticisms and reservations and responding to some of our proposals. If you are going to apply the entire program in the Algarve, you did well, he acknowledged a mistake, as it makes no sense for the region with the highest unemployment rate to have an amputated program», says the deputy elected by the constituency of Faro.

The Deputy Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Miguel Relvas announced this Tuesday in Parliament that the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) is evaluating the possibility of using national funds so that the program can be developed in the Algarve.

«In the questions we asked the Government, we asked for clarification on what measures and what budget for the Algarve is the Impulso Jovem program and we said that it was necessary to extend the Employment Passport to the region», Miguel Freitas recalled, stressing that he is still «waiting for those written responses'.

Regarding the budget provision for the implementation of these measures in the region – since the Algarve is not a convergence region and cannot apply community funds for all measures – the socialist deputy argues that it should come from the budget of the IEFP regional delegation.

"Every year about 30% of the funds from existing measures are left over, either due to inadequacy or lack of execution, and in the questions we asked the Government, we proposed that this amount be used, since it makes no sense for the region at this time to waste this money», he stressed.

According to the president of the PS Algarve, "there are 3500 young people registered in the employment centers in the region, many of them with higher education, who need to be given answers and, although this program for youth employment is not perfect, it is an interesting contribution".

The program, announced last week by the council of ministers, has a fund of more than 344 million euros (using community funds) for a universe of 90 young people, giving priority to convergence regions (North, Center and Alentejo).
