The National Team will be represented by 15 runners in the European Under-23 and Junior Track Cycling Championship, which will take place at the National Velodrome, Sangalhos, Anadia, between 3 and 8 July. The working group enters internship this Wednesday.

Portugal organizes the competition for the second consecutive year and, also for the second consecutive year, will be present in both junior and under-23 races, in the male and female sectors.

National coach Gabriel Mendes called up under-23 players Ana Azenha (National Track School/Liberty Seguros), Andreia Ponte (Ouribike/Ouriquense), Fábio Silvestre (Leopartd-Trek), Samuel Magalhães and João Matias (ASC/KTM/Vitória) , and juniors Hugo Brito, José Mendes, Miguel Amorim, Nelson Silva and Pedro Brás (National Track School/Liberty Seguros), Joana Ferreira, Fábio Mansilhas and Luís Gomes (Silva & Vinha/ADRAP/Sentir Penafiel), César Martingil ( CC José Maria Nicolau) and João Silva (Belalgas Cosmética/Mato Cheirinhos).

“Our sporting objectives are to get Portuguese runners to improve their personal marks in timed competitions, seeking to approach the level of the most developed teams”, says Gabriel Mendes.

As for scratch, points and Madison races, “we intend to qualify cyclists for the finals”, explains the national coach.
