The chamber de Lagos, with the support of the Public Security Police, is going to launch a pilot project whose trial period will take place between the 4th and 15th of June, at the EB 1 School in Santa Maria. The “passengers” of the Pedibus human bus will be students from the 1st Cycle of Basic Education.

The promotion of healthy and sustainable lifestyle habits is the main objective of this environmentally friendly project that the Municipality of Lagos will implement at EB 1 in Santa Maria, between the 4th and 15th of June (between 8:30 am and 9:00 am and 17:30 pm and 18:00 pm).

The Pedibus is a free human bus, made up of a group of children who walk to and from school, in a fun and safe way, always accompanied by one or more adults (guardians), following a route preset.

According to the local authority's Education Service, promoter of this project, the human bus aims, mainly, to encourage autonomy and responsibility, encourage the learning of safety rules, develop socialization between families and bring guardians closer to the school. The travel circuits, stops and respective times and "drivers" have already been mapped out.

Interested parties can find out more about this project, which is international and has already been implemented in several countries of the European Union, at the Education Service of the Municipality of Lagos (via telephone 282 771 700 or e-mails: [email protected] / [email protected]).

In the next school year, the Education Service plans to consult schools and parents' associations to assess the feasibility of expanding the initiative.
