The picnic and motorhome park in Pereiro, in the municipality of Alcoutim, was already inaugurated on Saturday, 23 June.

The ceremony was attended by the president of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, David Santos, the president of the Portuguese Motorhome Federation (FPA), José Pires, the president of the Parish Council of Pereiro António Margarida, and of the President of the Municipality of Alcoutim Francisco Amaral.

The ceremony was attended by the inhabitants of the parish of Pereiro and already some caravanists attracted by the beauty of the park, located next to the dam, and by the conditions of the infrastructure, also equipped with a platform for informal sports.

The president of the FPA congratulated the Alcoutim local authority for the work, which will be an asset for the municipality and for motorhome drivers, who are also looking for quieter spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of large urban centers.

"The park is aimed at the economic development of the municipality", added the mayor, noting that the parish of Pereiro has undergone, in recent years, a great development, with the construction of the WWTP, the connection to Águas do Algarve, the construction of social housing, new streets, the opening of the Museu do Ferreiro and the work developed by associations such as Cumeadas and Estrela Pereirense.

For the same reasons, and because of the accessibility that parish councils represent to an isolated and aging population, President António Margarida indignantly regretted the Government's resolution to extinguish a parish in the municipality.

David Santos guaranteed that the CCDR is working to streamline the licensing of motorhome parks, particularly in the areas of the National Agricultural Reserve, a bet that benefits everyone.

The president of the CCDR also underlined that, although the municipality of Alcoutim has lost 20% of its population, housing construction has also increased by 20%.

About 40% of the houses in Alcoutim were referred to as 2nd home, it continued, which conveys the idea that many people are living in Alcoutim, although it is still listed in another municipality, namely in the metropolitan area of Lisbon.

After the ceremony, followed the traditional S. João sardine, organized by the Parish Council of Pereiro and the Estrela Pereirense Association.
