The Lagos City Council approved, at the last executive meeting, the proposal to change the current tariff for the public transport system in the “A Onda” municipality. Ticket prices for city lines 1, 2 and 9 will drop by 60 cents and the unemployed will be able to enjoy reductions.

At the end of last year, the novelty in the tariff of the urban transport service in Lagos “A Onda” had been the introduction of a flat tariff, putting an end to the crown system, in force until then.

According to the municipal company Futurlagos, which is responsible for the management of these transports, this change was intended to privilege the more peripheral users in relation to the city of Lagos, thus contributing to greater socio-territorial cohesion in the municipality, insofar as that those who were more unprotected due to lack of alternatives saw the tariff reduced.

The City of Lagos emphasizes that it is the municipal company's obligation to carry out periodic studies with a view to optimizing this service and measuring the population's satisfaction levels.

In this sense, and with a view to a greater rationalization of resources and a reduction in expenses, the readjustment of some careers has been carried out, whenever justified.

Thus, and after a careful analysis of the statistical data provided by TransLagos, it was concluded that, following the introduction of the flat rate (which brought a slight increase in travel prices in the city), Line 1 (Lagos Ring Road), Line 2 (Meia Praia – Porto Mós – Meia Praia) and Line 9 (Portas de Portugal – Tecnopólis – Portas de Portugal) registered a considerable decrease in passengers.

According to Futurlagos, this result will not only have to do with this price increase, but also with the reduction of careers on the referred lines and the unfavorable economic situation.

In order to reverse this situation, Futurlagos will now introduce a new change to the tariff, and on-board tickets on city lines (1, 2 and 9), as well as on other lines on circuits carried out within the city, will be reduced from price in 60 cents (from the current 1,60 euros to 1 euro).

Following measures to combat the effects of the economic crisis approved by the Municipality of Lagos, a second measure was also confirmed: unemployed residents in the municipality of Lagos and registered at the Employment Center for more than six months will be able to benefit from the reduction in tariff applied to retirees (40% of the normal pass value) in the “A Onda” service, upon proof of professional status, which must be confirmed quarterly with Futurlagos.

Likewise, and given that the current tariff only includes 1, 3 and 7 day tickets, the creation of an intermediate ticket, with a duration of 5 days, was approved.
