Algarve cyclist Irina Coelho (Freebike Loulé/Bike Clube S. Brás) was crowned this Saturday national champion in the elite women's race of the National Road Championships, which finish this Sunday in Pataias, Alcobaça.

The Algarve runner was the one who reserved the most energy to discuss the triumph in the sprint at the end of the 61 km race, beating in the final meters Celina Carpinteiro (Ouribike/Ouricense) and Mónica Magro (Saertex Portugal/ Bicycles Lavarinhas), second and third, respectively .

The juniors also saved the race for the finish straight, within the limit of the 48,8 kilometers they were allocated. Joana Ferreira (Silva & Vinha/ADRAP/Sentir Penafiel) was faster, leaving Ana Tomas (BTT Seia) in second place and Ana Rita Reis (Silva & Vinha/ADRAP/Sentir Penafiel) in third place.

The cadet race, with 36,6 kilometers, was decided between two runners from Ouribike/Ouriquense. Ana Lopes got the better of it, leaving teammate Ana Inácio two seconds away. Individual Joana Ferreira closed the podium, 52 seconds behind the new national champion.

The 36,6 kilometers of the veterans race had an exciting final to the sprint. Filipa Fernandes (BTT Seia) was the fastest, relegating Lia Seabra (Galitos/Ciclismo 1904 Slowdown) and Marlene Seara (CDC Navais/Póvoa de Varzim), in that order, to the next positions.
