The Silves Castle summer timetable is already working, opening this monument from today until September 30, between 9:00 and 19:00 (last entry: 18:30).
Classified as a National Monument since 1910, this equipment is one of the city's ex-libris. Covered in red sandstone from the region, it shows several construction phases throughout the Islamic and Christian periods.
It has a polygonal shape, a perimeter of 12 000 square meters, eight adjoining towers and two barricades. Inside, there are vestiges of Almohad palatine houses and infrastructure for the supply of water and cereals.
The Castle of Silves has been increasing the number of visitors in the last decade, reaching an average of around 300.000 entries per year, which proves the importance of this monument in the context of the region's and the country's heritage.
