The Municipal Councils of Lagos and Albufeira have not yet decided whether or not to apply for the Local Economy Support Program (PAEL), the credit line created by the Government to support municipalities in difficulty.

In Lagos, Júlio Barroso (PS) says that «in principle yes, the municipality is thinking about using this program». However, a source in the Presidency's office, speaking to the Sul Informação, added that the executive is "waiting for the publication of legislation" that clearly defines the rules of the game.

In Albufeira, a source in the office of mayor Desidério Silva (PSD) told our newspaper that it is "still premature" to know whether or not this municipality will resort to PAEL. However, the mayor had already admitted this possibility before.

In the Algarve, there are at least two Chambers that will resort to PAEL (Portimão and Faro) and which are even part of the group of 53 municipalities "in an extraordinarily delicate situation", as Minister Miguel Relvas said this week. Loulé has also already announced its intention to apply.
