“Justice, Citizenship and the Rule of Law” is the theme of the conference that the President of the Bar Association, Marinho Pinto, will present on June 21, at 21 pm, at the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho de Loulé, as part of the cycle “Horizons of the Future”.

António Marinho e Pinto was born on September 10, 1950, in the parish of Vila Chã do Marão, municipality of Amarante. Graduated in Law from the University of Coimbra, in 1984, he was Patron Trainer of the Portuguese Bar Association (Coimbra District Council), from 1999 to 2002. He held the duties of Member of the General Council of the Bar Association and President of the Human Rights Commission at 2002-2003 triennium.

He was elected Chairman of the Portuguese Bar Association on 30 November 2007 for the 2008-2010 period and re-elected on 26 November 2010 for the 2011-2013 period.

He was a journalist, successively, at ANOP – Agência Noticiosa Portuguesa, at LUSA – Agência de Informação and Jornal Expresso, between 1978 and 2007. He was a member of the Editorial Board of Expresso and of the Directorate of the Union of Journalists.

As a student, he was head of the Academic Association of Coimbra before the 25th of April, having been arrested at the age of 20 by the political police of the Estado Novo.

He taught in Secondary and Higher Education, having taught philosophy, literature and Introduction to Politics in several high schools and secondary schools and in communication law, copyright and journalistic ethics, at the University of Aveiro and the University of Coimbra . He suspended teaching and journalism in 2007 to exercise the exclusive role of President of the OA.

He is the author of the books “As Faces da Justiça” (2004), “DURA LEX – Portraits of Portuguese Justice” (2007) and “Um Combate Desigual” (2010).

He is also the author of dozens of other works on Law and Justice, published in specialty newspapers and magazines, including: “The Professional Immunity of the Lawyer”, “Justice, the Lawyer and the Bar Association”, “ Lawyers and the Mediation of Justice”, “A Matter of Honor or the Other Side of the Rights of Expression and Information”, “The Judicial Enlightenment”, “The Bar Association should be a Stronghold of Citizenship”, “The Lawyers in the Face of the Secret of Justice”, “The Legislative Siege on Social Communication”, “The Judicial Truth and the Journalistic Truth” and “The Constitutionalization of the Secret of Justice and the Right to Inform”.
