Portimonense “died on the beach” in Madeira. This afternoon, Alvinegra lost 2-1 against União, at Estádio dos Barreiros and could not avoid relegation in the Liga Orangina.

After a series of eight games without losing, which took the Alvinegros from the bottom of the table, the Algarve team returned to know the taste of defeat and soon in the most decisive game of the season.

Portimonense even started the game better against União da Madeira and scored in the 23rd minute through Semedo. However, the advantage on the marker did not last more than three minutes. Tomé, in the 26th minute, tied the result.

The draw could even serve Portimonense, but the results of the direct opponents of the Algarve were not favorable for Lázaro Oliveira's team. Freamunde beat Penafiel at home and Sp. da Covilhã tied away with Moreirense – which confirmed their promotion.

If the scenario was not easy for Alvinegros, União da Madeira's goal, already in added time, when Portimonense was charging in search of victory, ended the aspirations of the Algarve team. Tininho had the misfortune to deflect a cross from the insular team into his own goal, an own goal that set the result in the final 2-1.

Portimonense finishes the Liga Orangina in last place, but on equal points with Sp. Covilhã, who was second to bottom, and who follows the team from Portimão to the II Division. Moreirense and Estoril rose to the First League.
