In the XNUMXth century, there was a writer born in Faro who pioneered the Portuguese novel, published two works of fiction before Alexandre Herculano and Almeida Garrett, and was also the first Portuguese novelist translated abroad.

It's about the almost unknown William Centazzi (1808-1875), whose work reflects the trends of Portuguese literature until the end of the third quarter of the XNUMXth century.

With the re-edition of “The Student of Coimbra”, by Pedro Almeida Vieira, this novel comes to publicize the work and life of Guilherme Centazzi.

The work will be presented on May 25, at 18 pm, in the main hall of the Chamber of Faro, with the presence of Pedro Almeida Vieira and presentation by Adriana Nogueira, professor at the University of Algarve.

The initiative is promoted by the Municipal Library of Faro and has free entry.
