Grândola opened doors to music on Saturday, the 5th, in the intimate atmosphere of the parish church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção. The introspective atmosphere, designed by the baton of conductor Paolo da Col, gained substance through the voices of the Ensemble Odhecaton.

“Do instant ao Infinito”, the title of the concert, conveys well how the works of composers Arvo Pärt, Wolfang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino and Gesualdo da Venosa were received at the third concert of the 8th edition of the Festival Terras Sem Sombra, by more than four hundred viewers.

The dissonances and the expressive and emotional tension resounded, with vibrant and hypnotic intensity, on the walls of the monument, before the assembly that completely filled it and listened, in awe-inspiring silence, to a cycle of profound anthropological dimension, having the cycle of the Passion as a guideline. and Death of Christ.

The repertoire, selected by the artistic director of the Festival Paolo Pinamonti, invited spectators on a journey through the pages of the history of music, from Renaissance polyphony to burning contemporary themes.

The following day, the voices of the famous Italian group were heard again, this time taking the cork oak forest as a backdrop, under the attentive listening of the children of the Eco-School of Ameiras.

Herdade das Barradas da Serra, an exemplary farm from the point of view of biodiversity conservation, welcomed with open arms the awareness campaign for the defense of the cork oak as a National Symbol Tree, promoted by Terras Sem Sombra and which was attended by the minister of Agriculture Assunção Cristas.

In addition to the main local institutions, the Transhumance and Nature and Trees of Portugal, CAP – Confederation of Farmers of Portugal and WWF participated in the initiative.

According to Luís Silva, representative of this institution – the most influential NGO, in global terms, in the protection of nature – the symbolic sponsorship of a cork oak by Assunção Cristas is an alert to the very significant weight, in environmental and socioeconomic terms, of the cork oak forest .

From the words uttered on the occasion by Assunção Cristas, we can draw from her enormous appreciation for the Alentejo, which, according to the minister, is a region “with a strong and growing dynamism, where opportunities and bridges between the various structures have been created, in a perfect marriage between the agriculture, the environment, preservation and the economic and social dimension”.

Cristas also highlighted the importance of Terras sem Sombra as an initiative emanating from civil society and which bets on the strategic triangle of music, heritage and culture to promote a territory with very concrete projects for the future.

The perfect symbiosis and the dialogue between the singing and the environment were, therefore, evident in this presence of the Festival Terras sem Sombra in Vila Morena, which affirms itself “not only for the value of the territory, but also for the will of its agents”, as he concluded. the Mayor, Carlos Beato.

For the more than seventy children who participated in the day, distributed in activities as diverse as bird watching, organizing an herbarium or observing the biophysical parameters of frogs and fish, this will certainly have been an unforgettable day, dedicated to mother Nature.
