Bailes Movimenta-te kicks off on June 2, at 22 pm, at Cerca do Convento, in Loulé.

This initiative, inserted in the trajectories of cultural network programming, object of the Algarve Central – Cultural Programming Network application, with funding from QREN, aims to recreate the tradition of popular dances that are part of the Algarve's cultural and recreational past.

Musician Zé Eduardo, one of the people in charge of the project, set out to investigate this tradition and, from there, with the participation of other musicians from the Algarve, gave a new look that has the final result of these Bailes Movimenta-te.

The musical direction is in charge of Zé Eduardo and the “band” that will accompany the dance is constituted by Zé Eduardo (Keyboards), Marco Martins (Bass), Sónia “Little B” Cabrita (Drums) and Javier Orti (Sax Tenor, Soprano). Accordionist João Frade is the special guest.

«It was with pleasure that I accepted the challenge of Rede Movimenta-te to form a small band, made up of musicians from the Algarve region, to rediscover the tradition of the popular “balls” of yesteryear, buried over the last decades by the concrete of our nightclubs. beautiful and all-garviana costa», Zé Eduardo began to explain.

«Let's get down to business, and with our eyes set on the example of “master” Giacometti, off we went, tape recorder in hand, looking for the living testimonies of that past that, fortunately, can still be collected in the testimonies and even in the “performances” of many veterans who made them happen, with their art, for over 30 years», added the musician.

As addicted as I am to these Americanized arts that go by the name of Jazz, I will not be able to reconstruct these beautiful dances from other eras, even because of the respect I have for them. I will (or rather, we will) turn them around in our own way, to be able to play them with our contextual limitations of XNUMXst century musicians.

«However, and for the thing to shine in authenticity, some of the young, but already renowned Algarve accordionists, will play with us in some danceable pieces, which makes us very proud. Here we wait for all of you to give an air of your grace and now two steps of dance!” he concluded.

After Loulé, this initiative will go through S. Brás de Alportel (June 3rd), Olhão (June 15th) and Tavira (July 2nd).

Admission is free.
