The documentary “São Tomé and Príncipe – the chorus of words” (2005), by Carlos Brandão Lucas, will be screened on May 12, at 16:30 pm, at the Álvaro de Campos Municipal Library, in Tavira, as part of the lecture cycle “Portuguese culture in dialogue”.

This is an initiative of the International Association of Paremiology (AIP-IAP), which includes a conversation with the author.

For Carlos Brandão Lucas “there are those who say that The Chorus of Words stood up around here in the slaves' lament.

So the voice runs across the island Angola, while on the island of Príncipe the words spoken in lunguye, to hear the legends of the funds and the balance of the dexas. And again São Tomé, to hear people speak, sing, count in Creole lining.

Anyway. All the words in a chorus of affirmation of the Santomean identity. NO KA BÊ NON SÔ (See you soon)”.

Carlos Brandão Lucas was born in São Tomé and Príncipe, in 1943. He has a degree in History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon.

With a very wide curriculum, he developed activities as an announcer and producer of radio programs (1961 to 1996 in Angola, USA, South Africa, Portugal) and published texts in the national and international press.

As an author, director and documentary filmmaker, he collaborates with various institutions, newspapers and television. He has carried out many diverse and remarkable works in various parts of the world, dedicating himself, since 1987, to documentary.
