The Algarve is the first region in the country to link the electronic clinical process between Health Centers and hospitals through the Medical Support System (SAM), announced the Regional Health Administration of the Algarve.

Since yesterday, the 2nd, the ARS has implemented the integration of electronic clinical processes between the three Groups of Health Centers (ACES) and the public hospitals in the Region (Hospital de Faro and Centro Hospitalar do Barlavento algarvio), which will allow doctors to view the patient's clinical history at any point in the network of healthcare units in the Algarve, standardize information and maximize efficiency.

According to the ARS, the aim of this new process, carried out through the SAM, is “to provide family doctors and hospital specialists with a useful and effective tool that promotes the recording of health data in an objective, systematic, codified and standardized way, and sharing patients' clinical files”.

This ensures a link between primary and hospital healthcare, streamlining processes and optimizing synergies arising from clinical articulation.

This process aims to improve the response capacity of patients both in terms of care and treatment.

The interconnection between health services aims to bring professionals at the various levels of the National Health Service closer together and improve the health care of users, avoiding the duplication of Complementary Means of Diagnosis and Therapeutics (MCDT), administrative and transport costs.

The implementation of this electronic clinical process system linking primary and hospital healthcare in the Algarve is part of the national project for the creation of the Health Data Platform, under development by the Ministry of Health.
