The river is the key biophysical and symbolic element that articulates past and future, economic activity with popular wisdom and landscape. Almost like an archaeological piece, the river talks about the activities that slowly shaped the landscape and the habits of the people; it conveys the transformation of rural economies and the new dynamics of the city.

It is a four-year project that aims to increase citizen involvement in science, technology and territory. Based on the concept of “European city of scientific culture”, the project seeks to reinforce collaborations between different actors in the community in the search for understanding and synergies.

The Rio Project – A Factor for the Development and Valorization of Tavira is a joint initiative of the Centro de Ciência Viva de Tavira, the Chão de Gente Association and the Tavira City Council, framed in the PLACES – Cities of Scientific Culture – platform of the European Union.
