He is known to everyone as Zé Pedro dos Xutos, but tonight at Portimão Arena he will be DJ Zé Pedro. The musician, who is one of the attractions of the first night of Great Easter Portimão 2012, the Vintage night, spoke exclusively to Sul Informação not only about this facet less known to the public, but also about the new tour of Xutos e Pontapés that will also be passing through the Algarve shortly.

Zé Pedro's performance tonight will be a return to the mixing desk after a year of interruption and, therefore, the musician assumes some anxiety: «I haven't been working as a DJ for over a year and for that reason I'm expectant for tonight. I'm going to present music, mainly, from the 70s, 80s and 90s and I hope that everything goes well, and that people like it».

Zé Pedro promises “a fantastic night. People will have a good time, and that's why I invite everyone to go to this party, not only to see me, but also to listen to the other DJs, with other types of music».

Accustomed to large stages shared with the other members of Xutos and Pontapés, the guitarist from Xutos assumes that there are many differences between the dance floor and concerts. «It is very different to be a DJ or to act on a big stage like with Xutos e Pontapés, a completely different preparation is needed, as in the new band I have now, Ladrões do Tempo, which is starting and is in the club stage , where we play for fewer people and there is a much greater contact with people. Being a DJ is different, the alignment is different, the songs are from other musicians and the goal is to make the floor always full of people dancing».

Although today's performance is not a debut as a DJ on Algarve nights, in Portimão it will be the first time that Zé Pedro makes this facet of his career known.

«I've been to the Algarve as a DJ, but I think Portimão will be the first time. Being a DJ is not the priority of my career, my priority is Xutos. But I really enjoy listening to music and it's desirable to do this kind of work of showing music to people, something I also do on a radio station in Lisbon. This DJ work is mainly done for the pleasure it gives me», he explained to Sul Informação.

Zé Pedro makes no distinction between the Algarve public and the rest of the national public, but assumes a special connection with the region and, particularly, with the city of Portimo where he works today. «The public in the Algarve is great, I don't see any differences between the public, because I'm loved throughout the country, but it's always good to go back to the Algarve. My grandmother was from Silves and I, since I was a kid, was going to spend holidays in the Portimão area, so I have a strong connection with that region».

Return to the Algarve scheduled for May in “version” Xutos

Fans of Zé Pedro and Xutos e Pontapés won't have to wait long to see the guitarist (and DJ) again in the Algarve, after tonight's performance is over.

The return is scheduled for May 5th, in Faro, at the XXVII Academic Week of the University of Algarve, in a concert in which the new work of the band will be presented, which is also composed by Tim, Kalu, Zé Cabeleira and Gui.

«The tour of the new work is starting now and we still don't have a definitive line-up for the concert. It will be very nice to return to Faro, since last year we were not in that Academic Week and I suppose that our return to the Algarve is also very much desired by people. In this concert we are going to promote our new work, which is a new recording by Cerco, which has six songs from this album [edited in 1985] and four new songs. It will be great to go back there», he concluded.
