The president of the PSD Algarve District Political Commission Luís Gomes presented his resignation last Monday, with early elections scheduled for the 26th of May.

For Luís Gomes, the decision is only aimed at the timely preparation for the choice of new local government bodies, not involving any issues of a party or institutional nature.

«Because the municipalities are one of the pillars of Portuguese democracy, I believe that the process must be prepared with time and, above all, with democratic legitimacy», says the president of the PSD Algarve's District Political Commission.

«Despite my term ending in October, this is the most opportune way for the PSD and the region to start with serenity the process of choosing their candidates for Municipalities, continuing the challenge of keeping the majority of the Algarve's Chambers», notes Luís Gomes.
