The services of the Municipal Library of Vila do Bispo promote, for the third consecutive year, the cultural project to promote books and reading, called “Abril a Ler”.

In this context, from April 4th to 23rd, various activities dedicated to books and reading will be promoted, aimed at children and young people and the general population of the municipality.

Thus, from 4 to 18, the Book Fair will take place at the Cultural Center of Vila do Bispo, where all those interested can visit it from Monday to Friday, between 09:00 am and 17:00 pm.

On the 5th, the Municipal Library receives, at 21 pm, Pedro Seromenho for the session to promote the book and reading “Um Escritor paras e Filhos”. Then, on the 00th, there will be several sessions with the storyteller Sandro Junqueira, who will be addressed to the groups of Kindergartens in the Municipality.

The 3rd Meeting of Popular Poetry and Amateur Fado and the launch of the book “Recordações da Poesia e Prosa” by Manuel Rafael is scheduled for the 15th, at 14 pm, at the Centro Cultural Auditorium.

The “Um Escritor na Escola” initiative, with the presentation of books and autograph sessions with the writer João Manuel Ribeiro, will take place on the 16th and 17th and has as target audience the classes of the 1st and 2nd Cycles of the Municipality.

On the 19th, at 15 pm, the book “Poemas Tardios” by Manuel da Várzea is scheduled to be launched at the Municipal Library of Vila do Bispo.

Finally, on the 23rd, the event “Um Escritor na Escola” will take place for the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education classes, where the book “Amanhecer na Rotunda” will be presented with the writer José Manuel Sequeira Gonçalves.

As in previous editions, this project aims to mark the commemorations of the International Children's Book Day and the World Book and Copyright Day, which are celebrated on April 2nd and 23rd, respectively.

The International Children's Book Day aims to arouse a taste for reading and draw attention to books written for children. The taste for reading should be cultivated from an early age and children who like books acquire and develop, earlier, creativity, self-confidence, respect for others and understanding, that is, a set of essential bases for their growth.

This is another initiative organized by the Municipal Library in conjunction with the National Plan for Reading and the Municipality's Schools, through the School Library of the EB 2,3 Grouping (under the SABE – Municipal Library Support Service for Libraries Councilors).
