Nuno Aires, until now vice-president of Algarve Tourism, will be the new sales and marketing director for the Longevity Wellness Resort, in Monchique, starting in April.

Nuno Aires, speaking to Publituris, assumes “the challenge of making Monchique and the Longevity Wellness Resort a Health and Wellness destination of international reference”.

Yesterday, Nuno Aires had announced, on his Facebook page, his departure from Turismo do Algarve, where he stayed between 2007 and 2012.

«Cycles are not decreed, they are assumed. And I assume the end of a very important cycle in my professional and personal life. As of next April, I will no longer have the link that kept me connected to Algarve Tourism. I will always keep positive memories. These will be the ones that will give me strength in this new cycle that is beginning. To all who contributed to these memories, my thanks», wrote Nuno Aires on Facebook.

Nuno Aires' stay at Turismo do Algarve, where he became president between August 2009 and April 2011, was marked by some curious episodes.

Elected as one of the vice-presidents of the list headed by António Pina, in October 2008, Aires would replace Pina as president of the organization when the latter, in August 2009, had to step aside because he could not accumulate the pension he had received with remuneration as the person responsible for tourism in the Algarve.

However, in March 2011, Pina, taking cover in an opinion of the Ombudsman in her favour, asked for the return to the presidency of ERTA.

An iron fist ensued between Pina, who wanted to go in, and Aires, who didn't want to leave, with the latter even interposing an injunction. For a few weeks, the two claimed to be presidents of Turismo do Algarve at the same time.

António Pina ended up assuming the presidency completely and again in April 2011, after what was classified as a "gentlemen's agreement" with Nuno Aires, who agreed to take over as vice-president.

With the departure of Aires to the private sector, in a month, this is the second vice-president who leaves Turismo do Algarve, after Fernando Anastacio resigned for political reasons in early March.
