The municipalities of Monchique and Portimão, in the district of Faro, and Barrancos, in Beja, are three of the seven municipalities in mainland Portugal that present this Monday a very high risk of fire, the second most serious of a scale of five, reported the Meteorology Institute (IM).

The other municipalities are Sardoal and Mação, in the district of Santarém, Vila do Rei (Castelo Branco), and also Portel (Évora).

The fire risk, determined by the IM, comprises five levels, ranging from “reduced” to “maximum”.

Its calculation is based on the values, observed at 13:00 pm, of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation occurred in the last 24 hours.
