Economy Minister Álvaro Santos Pereira and two Secretaries of State – for the Economy and Employment – will be present this Thursday, the 29th, at 18:00, at the official opening of Alisuper's new store in Vale do Lobo.

This reopening marks the beginning of the new phase of the Alisuper supermarket chain, after its acquisition last week by Grupo Nogueira, whose president José Nogueira will also be present.

The occasion will also be used to present Alisuper's new image.

As revealed by the newspaper «Expresso» on Saturday, the purchase, which represents a 26 million euros deal, will save the 60 stores of the Alicoop cooperative in the Algarve, which had been insolvent since 2009.

"Expresso" says that the agreement was closed on February 23, but "was waiting for bank guarantees that would allow the financing and officialization of the operation."

It was made official on March 22, with a CGD credit line worth 3,25 million euros, which was added to another Montepio credit of 3 million euros.

The State was involved in this business, ensuring the existence of guarantees of around one million euros, through the Mutual Guarantee System. In fact, the assistant secretary of state for the economy, António Almeida Henriques (who will be in the Algarve on Friday for the opening of the first store of the new phase), accompanied the negotiations.

Grupo Nogueira expects to create 350 to 400 jobs, largely by reinstating former employees of the supermarket chain, as well as taking over the 1,3 million euro debt that 245 workers from Alisuper had taken on at BPN to try to save the company. previously owned.

For now, it will reopen the store in Vale do Lobo, with the reopening of the Quinta do Lago supermarket also being planned. The aim is to reopen 60 stores across the Algarve.

But José Nogueira, a businessman from the Douro region with businesses in the areas of fruit and vegetables, meat and agritourism, says he's not in a hurry. “For now, I have no intention of expanding the network. I prefer to wait and see how the economic and political situation evolves”, said the businessman to “Expresso”.

Corrected on the 29th, at 9:32 am, with the replacement of Alisuper's image.
