This Saturday night, Filipa Sousa, from the Algarve, won the 48th edition of the Festival da Canção. The district jury gave the first place to Filipa Sousa and the public did not deny it, giving her the highest score.

And that was how the song «Vida Minha» won the festival and was chosen to represent Portugal in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 24, in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Festival.

Song nº12, composed by Andrej Babic and Carlos Coelho, got the maximum score, both in the District Jury's vote and in the public's televoting, in an edition whose dominant theme was Fado, Intangible Heritage of Humanity. .

“I never expected to win, much less with the maximum score”, commented the singer born in Albufeira, cited by HardMusic newspaper.

“When I started working with Carlos Coelho, I was discouraged because time was short and the other composers had been working on the themes for some time. By the way, Carlos Coelho, one of the things that he told me in the first phone call, was that it wouldn't be a song to win because we had little time”, he added.

The Festival da Canção was broadcast on RTP-1 and the international channels of the public television station, with a presentation by Sílvia Alberto and Pedro Granger, from Studio 01 of the station.

The event was also followed through the RTP website on the internet, an opportunity for Portuguese-speaking communities residing in countries where Filipa has already worked, such as Canada, Luxembourg or Germany, to watch its provision live.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will take place on May 26 in Baku.

About to turn 27 years old, Filipa Sousa she was always surrounded by chords and melodies. Although she started her musical studies when she was only 6 years old, the artist says that she was born singing: “When I was little, with 2 or 3 years old, they would put me on a table and ask me to sing. Although he still spoke a little badly, the melody was there”, he recalls.

Since then, she has never stopped, having won several awards in fado competitions, a musical style that she loves and that led her to join the Al-Mouraria group, in 2003, which resulted in the recording of a DVD live in Praça dos Fishermen.

It was, however, in 2007, that Filipa became known to the general public, with her participation in the RTP musical program “Operação Triunfo”.

Always supported by the Municipality of Albufeira, which paid tribute to her in a ceremony that sold out the Municipal Auditorium in 2008, Filipa was present at the Albufeira stand at BTL 2012, where she performed live, on the Saturday before her debut on the great night of music Portuguese.
