Môce dum Cabréste is leaving the computers and going up to the stages. Anyone who already knows him, knows that Môce dum Cabréste is the alter-ego of Dário Guerreiro, a 23-year-old who started making videos for Youtube at 17, and who, two years ago, because «he had a lot of time available at the university», began to make a vlog which already has almost 7500 subscribers.
Now, with no intermediary – understand without the video camera – Môce dum Cabréste will perform for a stand-up comedy show, this Friday, February 3, at the café-concert of the Teatro Municipal de Portimão (TIME), and two days later, on the 5th, in Armação de Pêra, at the headquarters of “Os Armacenenses”.
In conversation with Sul Informação, Dário Guerreiro explained how the idea of speaking with an Algarvian accent was born, to a camera, in a joking tone: «Môce comes at a time when Youtube was in great excitement, with several y worldwide to appear. In Portugal, I didn't know anyone who did it and, with influences like that y, I started talking to the camera. With the help of social media, it started to gain importance and, video after video, subscribers grew».
Despite everything having started as a way to occupy the free time he had while studying at the University, the way he started looking at videos had to be changed due to the number of people he managed to retain.
“When we have an audience, we stop doing things just for ourselves, we start having a purpose. I no longer make a video on a certain day of the week because I feel like it, but because there's someone on the other side, even if it's three or four people», he explained.
Môce dum Cabréste speaks with an Algarve accent, on topics related to the Algarve, but is also successful outside the region and abroad – a deduction after watching the latest episode of Môce dum Cabréste in which he received correspondence from New York.
However, despite his – apparently – international fame, Dário Guerreiro has his feet firmly on the ground – and in the Algarve – and does not plan to pursue, for now, a career in the world of humor.
«Nothing started with: I'm going to be a comedian, nothing like that. I have my profession that has nothing to do with humor and I'm not going to change the right for the uncertain. I'm not leaving the Algarve and “taking a dip” in Lisbon to look for a career. If there is a proposal that is beneficial for me and for my future, if it is something right… it is a pity that I have to leave the Algarve to embark on something more serious. In another place, the themes, the contexts change. What would it be like to make Môce dum Cabréste in Lisbon? An Algarvean seeing Lisbon? There comes a point where a person like the others tries his luck and loses the juice…».
Despite the disadvantages he encounters in leaving the Algarve, Môce dum Cabréste does not consider that humour, as it is done with an Algarvean accent, becomes too localized. “There are niches that really appeal to specific moods. There is the case of Serafim, who is from Alentejo, who tells his stories, from Alentejo, with an Alentejo accent and travels all over the country. Why shouldn't that happen with the Algarve?».
This Friday, Môce dum Cabréste presents itself on stage in Portimão, in direct contact with the public, something that he started doing recently but that makes him feel “like a horse mackerel on a plate. I really like being on stage, it's one of the best sensations in the world. The other day, I was in Lagoa giving a show [see video on the side] and I was there thinking: “fire”, being here with 300 people applauding me… this is what I was born for, this is what it is my life… but I repeat, I will not exchange what is right for what is uncertain».
The Môce dum Cabréste, in addition to the invitation – in a video of course – that he leaves to the readers of Sul Informação, left some clues about what he is going to present on Friday, at TEMPO, in Portimão: «I'm going to present a format that mixes music, humor, stand-up comedy and lots of interaction with the public. I'm going to present myself as versatile as possible so that people can also get to know what I'm really capable of. Portimão is my land by affinity. I'm from Parchal which is like the south bank of Lisbon in relation to Portimão and I feel at home here. Therefore, I hope to have the same ease to do the same thing I did in Lagoa, that is, I will also send some jokes about the city, because I have the legitimacy to do so», he concluded.
