The Portuguese Marathon Cup (XCM), which will include seven scoring races, starting in March and extending until October, is sponsored again this year by Sport Zone.

The competition will be called the XCM Sport Zone Cup of Portugal, bringing together a set of seven events that bring together hundreds of cyclists fighting for sporting results with thousands of others who participate just for leisure. The year 2012 marks the debut of athletes with disabilities, as well as holders of the new cycling license.

The Alte Marathon, scheduled for April 29, is one of the competitions in which disabled athletes participate.

The success of previous editions of the Cup of Portugal means that more and more marathons want to join. However, the quality of the organizations that have integrated the competition made the Portuguese Cycling Federation bet on the stability of the calendar, keeping most of the races from the previous season. Even so, the number of scoring events rose from six to seven, including the Marathon in Mêda, which hosted the 2011 National Championship, and the Marathon in Azeméis, which replaced the Marathon in Vale do Vouga.
