Amaro Antunes is the new addition to the professional cycling team of the Tavira Cycling Club. The young athlete rose to professionalism last season, and, currently 20 years old, already has several victories in his record.
During his passage through the youth teams, he became famous in time trials and mountain stages. But in 2011, he made a name for himself by winning one of the competitions in the international competition, the Cup of Nations, at the service of the national under23 team.
«Any of the victories I achieved has a very special flavor. When having to mention one, of course, I choose the national junior championships in chrono and road. Of course, I also had to mention my recent victory in the Nations Cup in Italy. It was chilling to win there», commented the young cyclist.
This victory was obtained at the service of the national under 23 team and Amaro Antunes classifies it as «very important to me». In «my journey as a cyclist for the national team, I always try to be useful and to honor Portugal's shirt; added.
Born in Vila Real de Santo António, Antunes is the most recent bet of the Algarve team. After stressing that, «first of all, it is a huge honor for me to wear the colors of the Tavira Cycling Club», Amaro Antunes added that his expectations are «great, as I will try to give my best to the team. I am very grateful for the bet the Club has made on me».
As a professional in this team, the athlete emphasizes that he has “a clear objective: to learn more and be able to evolve as a cyclist”.
Amaro Antunes, although still a young figure, emphasizes that his “taste for cycling came” early and “due to the fact that he always had family members connected to the sport”.
