The Meteorology Institute signed the collaboration protocol in the INSPIRE project, financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology, in which IM is one of the partners.

The project, which will last for three years, is led by Instituto Dom Luiz and has as partners the Universities of Coimbra, Lisbon and Évora.

Under the INSPIRE project, earthquakes recorded instrumentally in the period 1900-1960 will be studied, in particular aspects related to the seismic source, in order to contribute to the improvement of the national seismic catalogue, which is an essential component for the characterization of hazards. seismic.

This study will involve the recovery of analog records dispersed in different files, the determination of the instrumental response of the acquisition systems used and the digitization of seismograms.

This is one of nine ongoing research projects in the field of meteorology, climatology and geophysics in which IM currently participates.
