This January, the Municipal Market of São Brás de Alportel starts a new thematic cycle, choosing one of the products of the season every month. In this 1st month of the year, kale was the chosen vegetable, an extraordinary food, with immense benefits for health, at the most diverse levels.
Antioxidant, rich in fiber and vitamin, with anticancer and antidiabetic action, cabbage has several and valuable properties that also include promoting gastrointestinal health and preventing aging, influencing the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system.
Last Saturday, the 14th, the Municipal Market hosted a display of products with the presentation of the book “São Brás de Alportel à table”, composed of various traditional recipes collected in the municipality.
The gastronomic suggestions return to the Municipal Market on the morning of the 21st, at Mercadinho das Couves, with the presentation of recipes based on cabbage.
And on the last Saturday of the month, the kale inspired the guest chef, the young talented Jorge Sancho (Chef at Pousada de Estoi), in another tasty morning of Gastronomic Demonstration.
This initiative also includes a recipe competition open to the population.
The month's theme challenges the entire population to share cabbage-based recipes, a contest that will award the most original recipes with a basket of local products.
Participants can send their recipes to [email protected], write on the facebook page “Municipal market" or deliver directly to the Municipal Council's Office of the Municipality.
