The PCP will not drop the discussion in Parliament on the introduction of tolls on the SCUT motorways in Algarve, Beira Interior, Interior Norte and Beira Litoral/Beira Alta and wants the deputies elected by the affected regions to be faithful to the positions they have taken over the years in relation to the collection of tolls in the regions for which they were elected.

The Communist Party made a Parliamentary Appraisal of Decree-Law No. 111/2011, of 28 November, which dictated that these roads start to be paid as of next week, with which it intends to “bring this matter back to the discussion in the Assembly of the Republic».

"The PCP will do everything to avoid the imposition of this measure, a perfectly achievable objective if all the Deputies elected by the affected constituencies maintain in the Assembly of the Republic the positions they manifest with the populations that elected them", guaranteed the Communist Parliamentary Group.

In a statement, the PCP reported on the action it took and with which it wants to relaunch the discussion on this matter in Parliament. With this measure, it is also intended to reinforce “the institutional expression of the just struggle of the populations, municipalities, user commissions and business associations of the affected regions”.

With regard to Via do Infante, the PCP, in its assessment of the decree-law, recalls that despite being considered a motorway, this road “does not meet, according to the Institute of Highway Infrastructures (…) all technical requirements recommended for interurban motorways, in particular with regard to the transversal profile'.

The communists are still poring over the alternative pointed out by the Government to Via do Infante, the National Road 125, which «in significant parts of its route is an authentic urban artery, with intersections, traffic lights and pedestrian crossings», in other words, «does not have characteristics suitable for long-distance traffic.
