Cristóvão Norte, PSD deputy elected by the Algarve, led the discussion sessions of the Youth Parliament in Faro, at Escola Afonso III, on December 12th, a session that was attended by more than 100 students aged between 11 and 14 years old.

The debate session was attended by elementary school students and had the theme of Social Networks: Combating Discrimination.

The sessions were well attended by young people registered for the Youth Parliament Program, and aim to stimulate reflection and debate at this stage on the measures and proposals that schools will present at the district session stage.

The themes allow starting from something that is current and part of young people's lives: social networks.

During the sessions, the various aspects of civic participation and the issue of discrimination were addressed, and to what extent the Internet and tools can be used to facilitate the involvement and sharing of new knowledge, new contacts, bringing together people who do not know each other. know and that on the network are the same, regardless of differences.

Also during the sessions were answered the questions and curiosities of students about the functioning of the Portuguese Parliament, the work and organization of deputies and various topics related to current events, to which the deputy responded and gave his testimony about the work developed in the exercise of their functions.

On the sidelines of the session, the Algarve parliamentarian considered that “it is a valid initiative that arouses the interest of young people in the construction of active citizenship, an essential cause for valuing democracy and instilling in the minds of younger people the importance of combating any form of discrimination”.
