Silves promotes screenings and awareness about AIDS for young students

Discussing and getting to know all the issues associated with the HIV-AIDS Virus is the main objective of an awareness action organized by the Municipality of Silves (CMS), through its Youth Sector, which is taking place this Monday, the 28th , between 10:00 am and 17:00 pm, at the Fissul Auditorium, in Silves.

Invited to address the young people are some health professionals with extensive experience in contact with the disease: Nurse Ana Abreu, Nurse Malta (from the Damage Reduction Team of the Institute of Drugs and Drug Addiction – IDT) and the psychologist Fátima Vidinha (from the Center for Counseling and Early Detection of HIV/AIDS - CAD de Faro).

The event marks a date of great importance, "The World Day to Fight AIDS" (date commemorated on December 1, 2011) and will be attended by around 200 young people from the Secondary School of Silves. There will also be a series of free screenings, open to the general population.

The action program is as follows:

10h - Opening session;

10h20 - Awareness Action on Sexually Transmitted Infections – STIs (organized by Nurse Ana Abreu);

11h00 - Coffee-Break (served by the group of CEF Mesa and Bar at Escola Secundária de Silves) and distribution of Questionnaires by the Youth;

11h20 - Awareness Action on the HIV-AIDS Virus theme (led by Nurse Malta);

12h00 - Game about the transmission of HIV-AIDS and other STIs (organized by Nurse Ana Abreu), followed by an open debate on the topics covered (with the participation of Nurse Ana Abreu, Nurse Malta and physician Fátima Vidinha);

12h30 - Closing session;

12h40 - Collection of Questionnaires and distribution of Kits with informative/preventive material by the young people, provided by the Counseling and Early Detection Center of HIV/AIDS - CAD of Faro;

13h00 - Carrying out free screenings for the HIV-AIDS virus (open to the general public); provision of clarification and awareness-raising service on the problem of the HIV-AIDS virus and distribution of informative/preventive material;

17h00 - End of action.
