The Municipality of Albufeira has just denied, in a statement, its involvement in a fraud scheme operating in the Algarve region regarding the installation of security alarms in private homes.

According to the municipality of Albufeira, which cites news that has been made public in recent days, "the residents were contacted by telephone (289 244 772) by a female voice who, in English, offered them security services against crime."

«The fictitious company – Europe Alarm Systems – provides unconfirmed information about crime in the Algarve, which, according to those targeted, will be intended to incite fear and insecurity».

After questioning the residents, continues the Albufeira Town Council, «the scammers claim to be operating in partnership with the regional authorities, which are responsible for the free installation of the alarm system. Customers would only be responsible for the monthly payment arising from the service».

People contacted by telephone are further told that their names and contact details 'have been provided by the local Registry Office'.

Reaffirming that it has nothing to do with this scheme, the Council of Albufeira warns all its residents that this is a "swindle".
