The Algarve-Fátima Cycloperegrinação departs from Albufeira, next Sunday, towards the sanctuary, in a four-day trip, with around 220 cyclists covering 424 kilometres.

The Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho was the stage for the official presentation of the 9th Ciclopilgrimage to Fátima. The event, organized by the Algarve Cycling Association and with the support of the local authority, will take place between the 9th and 13th of October. The race consists of four stages, in a total of 424 kilometers connecting Albufeira to the sanctuary of Fátima.

The cyclists depart on October 9, at 10 am, after the blessing ceremony at Largo dos Paços do Município, covering 30 kilometers to Aljustrel. Follow the route Aljustrel–Montemor–O-Novo, on the 130th (in 10 km). From there, the pilgrims travel, at 139, to Alpiarça (11 km). The trip ends on the 85th, with the Alpiarça-Fátima stage (12 km), where cyclists will join the religious ceremonies that last until the 70th.

The Municipality of Albufeira has been associated with the initiative since the second edition, appearing as the starting point for the Algarve cycle pilgrimage. “We once again support this sporting and religious event, which demonstrates the faith, courage and determination of the hundreds of participants”, said Carlos Quintino, councilor of the City Council.

For Bernardino Caliço, vice-president of the Algarve Cycling Association, “the support of the local authority has been fundamental for the realization of the initiative, which this year saw the number of participants reduced due to the logistical difficulties that a large platoon entails”. Although with fewer elements, this continues to be “a unique initiative at national level, with no record of a cycle pilgrimage to Fátima of this dimension”, stressed João Espada, religious assistant at the event.

The 9th edition of the Cycloperegrination will be accompanied by Reverend Pedro Coelho, parish priest of Alcantarilha, who will preside over the Eucharist held along the way and the Official Eucharist at the Church of Santíssima Trindade, in Fátima, on the 12th, at 12:30 pm.
