The replacement of car traffic near Casa Inglesa, the creation of a building for shops, restaurants and other purposes in the current Largo do Dique and also the construction of another multipurpose building, with parking, between the old bridge and the sardine restaurants, are some of the novelties for the riverside area of Portimão, whose proposals will be presented this Monday, at 18 pm, in a session at Teatro Municipal Tempo.
In the images, the Sul Informação had first-hand access, one can also see the intention to create a roundabout at the exit of the old Arade bridge and at the access to Infante D. Henrique and Serpa Pinto streets.
These proposals result from the Master Plan for the Urban Regeneration of the Old City Center and the Strategic Plans for Urban Rehabilitation, which will be presented this afternoon at Tempo, in a public session.
These works are the result of the «political option» taken by the Municipality of Portimão to intervene in the old part of the city, having approved by the Council of Ministers a «critical area for urban reconversion and recovery».
"With this option, we are committed to not only recovering and preserving the architectural, historical and cultural identity of the center of Portimão, but also to intervene in the public space of this area in order to give it a new life", stresses a source of the Mayor's Office.
Thus, over the last two years, «a team of specialists and technicians from the municipal services have been working on this policy orientation, studying the most diversified aspects of this area of the city and developing a set of intervention proposals in this very sensitive area of ours. City".
This Monday, “accounts for this work will be given, presenting at first hand the proposals that renowned Portuguese experts, such as Professor Miguel Arruda and Professor Sidónio Pardal, defend for the different areas of the city, as well as the funding perspectives associated with them», added the same source.
Thus, the session will begin with a general intervention by Manuel da Luz, mayor of Portimão.
This is followed by the presentation of the Strategic Plans for Urban Rehabilitation, which have an intervention area between Avenida Infante D.Henrique and Urbanização Quinta da Abicada, Largo Gil Eanes and Rua Comandante Carvalho Araújo.
Intervention proposals will also be presented for the area of Gare Rodoviária and Largo da Estação, Jardim Sárrea Prado, Largo Gil Eanes and Rua Dona Maria Luísa, among others. This presentation will be in charge of the architect Miguel Arruda.
Afterwards, the presentation of the Master Plan for the Urban Regeneration of the Old City Center will take place. Architect Catarina Antunes will talk about its schedule, while Carlos Lobo will present the fundamental issue of Rehabilitation Financing perspectives.
The architect Sidónio Pardal will then speak and discuss the Intervention projects within the scope of the Master Plan, for Largo da Igreja, Zona Ribeirinha de Portimão and Rua Santa Isabel, among others).
